Bishkek's workhorse is the marshrutka, shared minibuses that crisscross the city along fixed routes and run throughout the day. They're budget-friendly and fast. But for first-time visitors the routes can be opaque without Cyrillic literacy or local knowledge. Regular city buses cover the same corridors at a slightly slower pace. Neither option requires advance booking. You simply flag them down or board at stops. For point-to-point travel, Yandex Go is the dominant app-based ride-hailing service and is widely used by both locals and visitors. It offers fare estimates upfront, eliminates negotiation, and works reliably across the city, generally your most practical option as a newcomer. Conventional street taxis exist as well. But agree on the fare before you get in. From Manas International Airport, taxis and app-based rides are the standard options into the city center. The airport sits roughly 25 km northwest of central Bishkek, so factor in travel time accordingly. Avoid accepting unsolicited ride offers inside the arrivals hall.
